Northbytes is a small senior team in Medway, Kent, building custom appsappswebsitesAI toolssystemsgames for small businesses, startups and charities across the UK - software you'll be proud to put your name on.
A commissioned client build. Prospectour splits the entire planet into claimable map squares, drops you into a 3D world built on real street data, and lets the ground you claim mine for you around the clock. Unity 6 client, TypeScript backend, both stores, built from a concept brief and a folder of raw art.
A commissioned client build. PolicyMind profiles a UK business, shows exactly which policies it's legally required to hold, drafts them with AI grounded in official guidance, checks the ones it already has, and keeps everything audit-ready as the law and the business change.
One sentence is enough to start. No technical spec, no pitch deck, no forms with twenty fields.
02
We send a fixed quote
What gets built, how long it takes and what it costs, in plain English and usually within a few hours. The number you agree is the number you pay.
03
We build it and hand it over
You approve each phase before the next one starts and see working builds early, on your own phone for apps. At the end the code is yours.
Who you'll actually be talking to
Piers Bennett handles clients and contracts, with a background in law. Lucas Reddington writes the code. That is the whole company, in Medway, Kent - so the person who quotes your project is the person who builds it, and you never get handed to an account manager.
It depends entirely on what you want it to do - and for the simplest websites it can be nothing at all: a landing page or brochure site with a contact form qualifies for our no-build-fee deal, where we build the site free, you host it with us for the first year, and the source code is yours after twelve months. Beyond that, as a rough guide: websites that need a database or custom backend start from £500, web apps and SaaS products from £1,500, mobile apps from £3,000, bespoke business systems from £5,000, and games from £6,000. The figure grows with things like payments, customer accounts, and integrations. Every project begins with a free scoping conversation and then a fixed, plain-English quote before any work starts, so the number you agree is the number you pay. Because our developers work with state-of-the-art AI tools, our prices are consistently more competitive than traditional agency rates for the same quality of work.
How fast can you build my website or app?
Simple websites often launch within two to four weeks. Apps and bespoke systems depend on scope, but a focused first version typically takes six to twelve weeks, and you'll see working builds early - on your own phone, for apps - rather than a big reveal at the end. Your quote comes with a committed delivery date, and we have a habit of hitting them. Many of our projects go from idea to launch in weeks, not months.
Do you use AI to build projects?
Yes, and we're open about it. Our skilled developers use state-of-the-art AI to speed up the repetitive parts of building software, which is a big reason we deliver faster and more affordably than typical agencies. Every line of code is still reviewed, understood, and owned by a human engineer - AI assists our team, it doesn't replace it.
I have an idea but no technical background - can you still help?
Absolutely - most of our clients aren't technical, and that's the point. You bring the idea in your own words; we translate it into a plan, a price, and a working product. No jargon, and you'll always understand what's happening with your project.
What is Northbytes?
Northbytes is a software development studio based in Medway, Kent. We design and build apps, websites, custom business software, and games for clients across the UK - skilled developers working with state-of-the-art AI to deliver faster and at more competitive prices than a traditional agency. We also offer practical security consulting.
Do you only work with businesses near Kent?
No - we're based in Medway, Kent, and love working with local businesses across Kent and the South East, but we build for clients anywhere in the UK and beyond. Most projects run perfectly over video calls, email, and regular progress demos, and everything we deliver comes with documentation you keep. If you are local, we're happy to meet in person.
Will my idea be stolen?
Your idea stays yours. We keep client concepts confidential, we don't discuss them with other clients, and we'll sign an NDA before the first call if you'd rather have it in writing. The code we write for you is yours too: ownership transfers to you, and on the no-build-fee websites it transfers after twelve months.
What if I'm not happy?
You approve the work in stages rather than at the end. Each phase is reviewed before the next one starts, you see working builds early - on your own phone, for apps - and you can stop at any point, having paid only for the phases you've already approved. There is no long tie-in and no cancellation fee.
What happens to my money?
You get a fixed, plain-English quote before any work starts, so the number you agree is the number you pay. Payment is staged against approved work rather than taken up front, and anything outside the agreed scope is quoted separately before we touch it, never added to an invoice afterwards.
Is my app secure?
Everything ships over HTTPS with proper authentication and access controls, data is encrypted at rest on UK infrastructure with automated backups, and errors are monitored rather than discovered. We run continuous vulnerability scanning against the build rather than checking once at launch, and we're specific about what that is: AI-assisted scanning plus review by the engineer who wrote the code, not accredited penetration testing. If your project needs accredited testing we'll tell you and help you arrange it rather than implying we've already done it.
